Alteration and Provenance of Devonian to Carboniferous Volcanic Clasts in LithicWackesfrom the Harz Mountains

Introduction:

This study uses XRF and LA-ICPMS data of volcanic clasts from Devonian to Carboniferous lithic wackes of the Harz Mountains to constrain their provenance and the tectonic setting of their source areas. Middle Devonian to lower Carboniferous pillow basalts, as a potential source, were also analyzed and interpreted in the course of provenance and alteration. In addition, element distributions were measured by EMP to characterize the alteration processes of the volcanic clasts after deposition.....
